Rena Chinn, Therapist 425-395-4022

Picture

I am available to help you heal, navigate relationship issues and transitions,  and discover why you may face the same challenges again and again.

Rena studied at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, and has a Masters in Counseling Psychology.  Prior to that she also studied business at The Anderson School of Business, UCLA and Economics at the University of California.  She previously worked in software marketing.

She works with women, and couples, and also provides supervision and consultation for clinicians. Over time we become  disconnected from our emotions as we defend ourselves in life. As a result, our  emotions rule us, resulting in depression, anxiety, out of control anger, and  difficulty in relationships. In individual and couples therapy, Rena helps clients to re-connect with the parts of themselves that block being self aware, self accepting, and able to live from an authentic place. Rena uses evidence based practices, such as ACT, DBT and EMDR to overcome stuck-ness and overwhelm.  She employs family systems approaches to explore underlying causes. She especial enjoy work with emerging adults and women of color.

Rena is also a licensed supervisor in the state of Washington and supervised therapists Interns and Externs at Mend Seattle for two years. MEND Seattle – Dedicated to Social Change
------
"My work uses an evidence based approach approach, but also makes use of family systems, attachment theory, and somatic awareness.  I examine our therapeutic relationship for insight into how the client operates in the world. I work from a culturally sensitive perspective on issues of ethnicity, cultural identity and inter-generational understanding primarily with Asian  Americans. I focus on issues of belonging and self- esteem. I also do cultural diversity training and public speaking on issues of race and ethnicity."
